The Trinity of a Name

Part I: The Foundation - FIELDS

The story begins with the name given to me by my father, Willie Fields. My surname, Fields, is my paternal inheritance and my earthly foundation. Its origins are in Old English, a name given to those who lived and worked in the open country—the land of possibility. From my father, I received more than a name; I received the ground on which I was to build my life. He gave me the proving ground, the physical world where my battles are fought, my faith is tested, and the seeds of my purpose are sown. My legacy is tied to his, a reminder that every spiritual victory is won here, in the tangible fields of human experience.

Part II: The Mantle - DERRICK

Upon this foundation established by my father, my mother, Theresa Fernandez Fields, placed a mantle of leadership. My first name at birth was Derrick. This name has ancient Germanic roots, derived from "Theodoric," which means "ruler of the people." It was the identity given to me, a name of strength and earthly authority. It established my role as a leader. But as my journey unfolded, I learned that before one can lead others, one must first become a "leader of Self." The name Derrick was the prophecy of my capacity to rule, but the true kingdom I was meant to govern was the one within.

Part III: The Spirit - COURTLIN

The final and most crucial part of my identity was held in reserve, a divine secret whispered to my mother's heart. The name Courtlin. As she said, "it just came to her"—a name with no earthly history before me, because its history was heavenly.

Growing up, I felt a call to step out from the crowd and into a unique purpose. The stage became the place where I answered that call, reversing my names to become Courtlin Derrick Fields. This was not a change; it was an alignment. It was the moment I placed my divine mission at the forefront of my life.

The name Courtlin means "He Who Holds The Divine Court Within."

• COURT- signifies the sacred space inside me where my spirit meets God.
• -LIN signifies that this court is held within me, and that I am the beginning of a new lineage of faith.

By placing Courtlin first, my identity was complete. My spiritual purpose (Courtlin) now guides my leadership (Derrick) across the battlefield of my life (Fields).

My full name is my mission statement: A Spirit-led ruler standing on the foundation built by his father and mother, ready for any challenge God sets before him.
